
Doug joined Newland in 2004 and is responsible for the oversight of all legal matters affecting Newland and its affiliated companies. He provides support and direction for Newland’s in-house counsel, as well as advising on risk management, litigation matters, finance/lender issues, workouts/restructurings, employment issues, construction projects, acquisitions/dispositions, development/entitlement issues, corporate governance, and other real estate management related matters. Doug is a member of both the Investment and Executive Committees for Newland providing strategic direction on existing projects and new business opportunities.
Doug was previously Senior Vice President, Corporate Secretary and General Counsel for TrizecHahn Development Corporation, one of the largest regional shopping center owners in the United States. Similar to his role at Newland, Doug had oversight of all legal matters for TrizecHahn, providing strategic leadership and management direction on a broad range of commercial/retail matters. Doug was responsible for managing the closure of TrizecHahn’s Retail Division in 2004.
Doug received both his Bachelor’s Degree (graduating Magna Cum Laude) and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of San Diego. He is admitted to practice law in the State of California. Doug has been a licensed California Real Estate Broker since 1988.
